LinkedIn Boolean Search Builder

Enter your keywords: the tool writes the query with the right operators, quotes and parentheses. Paste it into LinkedIn search, Sales Navigator or Recruiter.

What is it for?

When you type several words into LinkedIn, it searches them loosely and returns thousands of approximate profiles. A boolean search gives it precise rules so you keep only the profiles you want.

Recruiting

Find candidates whatever title they use (“Developer”, “Software Engineer”…) while excluding interns.

Prospecting

Target decision-makers in an industry and city without browsing hundreds of off-target profiles.

Monitoring

Spot experts, customers or competitors around a specific topic.

OR widens: “CEO OR Founder” gives either one.

AND narrows: “SaaS AND London” requires both.

NOT excludes: “NOT intern” drops those profiles.

How to use it in 3 steps

  1. List your words. Job titles or synonyms in the first field (at least one must appear).
  2. Refine. Add what is mandatory (AND) and what to rule out (NOT).
  3. Copy and paste. Paste the result into the LinkedIn search bar, Sales Navigator or Recruiter.

Your criteria

Job titles or synonyms. One per line or separated by commas.

To cross with an industry or a skill.

Every word you enter becomes mandatory.

To rule out off-target profiles.

Your query

Search on LinkedIn

“Search on LinkedIn” opens a people search in a new tab: your query is only sent to LinkedIn at that point.

LinkedIn boolean operators

OperatorEffectExample
ANDBoth terms must appearsales AND SaaS
OREither termCEO OR Founder
NOTExcludes a termmarketing NOT intern
" "Exact phrase"Head of Sales"
( )Groups terms(CEO OR Founder) AND SaaS

Good to know before you search

  • Operators must be uppercase: lowercase “and” or “or” are read as ordinary words.
  • Use straight quotes ("): curly quotes (“ ”) break exact-phrase matching.
  • LinkedIn does not support the * wildcard: “manag*” will not find “manager”. List the variants with OR.
  • The number of operators per query depends on your plan. Several guides mention about 15 for Sales Navigator, but limits change: check LinkedIn's official help.
  • This tool writes the syntax for you. It does not guarantee a number of results or that every operator is available on your account.

Example

To find SaaS sales directors in London while excluding junior profiles:

("Head of Sales" OR "VP Sales" OR "Sales Director") AND (SaaS OR "B2B software") AND London NOT (intern OR assistant OR junior)
